stumbled across this after my yoga class; my teacher was arranging to meet a friend down the beach on a freezing cold day in October for a “swim”.
I couldn’t help but interrupt- “you’re doing what? it’s bloody freezing, you’re crazy!” then they told me the benefits and to look up @iceman_hof. Wow, the benefits were INSANE!
I then started regularly swimming in our local estuary. I was hooked.
The buzz, the absolute elation I felt afterwards was worth the few seconds of being frozen to the core.
Before going in, my mind was consistently overactive, overthinking, then just like that as I immersed myself in the water, any worries were cleansed and purified by the ice-cold water.
Whenever I can’t get out for a swim, I try and have an ice-cold bath, so if you don’t live by the sea, you’ll definitely still get the benefits at home.
There are some incredible benefits, here are just a few:
- Improves Your immune system
- Improves your circulation
- Excellent for your mental health
- Sounds weird, but my skin feels much firmer- bye bye cellulite
If you are going in the sea, river etc always go with a buddy for safety.
Also, if you have any health issues, get the okay from the Doctor before you start.
It’s so much fun, and there’s such a huge community now! If you want to buddy up, @thebluetits have a local area across the UK with lots of members looking for fellow swimmers!
